Histo, histo, everywhere
Histoplasma capsulatum (GMS stain)
Seen in the Ohio River Valley… and in Texas. Apparently. Found in bat / bird guano (poo).
To differentiate from other bugs you do a mucicarmine stain, and histo will be stone cole negative. But really, all pathology can say without a culture is “many small budding yeast forms seen, correlate with culture and clinical history. Differential diagnosis includes histoplasma.”
